Fabriano International Watercolour Festival 2026

I've just returned from one of the most inspiring experiences of my artistic journey—the 2026 International Fabriano Watercolour Festival in Italy. The combination of Bologna's rich artistic heritage and Fabriano's legendary papermaking tradition created the perfect backdrop for a festival that celebrated everything I love about watercolour painting.
Fabriano is a name synonymous with quality paper, and being there in person, surrounded by artists from across the globe, felt like a pilgrimage of sorts. The town itself is steeped in centuries of craft tradition, and you can feel that history in every corner. Walking through the festival venues, I was struck by the diversity of approaches to watercolour—from classical techniques to bold, contemporary interpretations.
What made this festival particularly special was the opportunity to connect with fellow artists, see their work up close, and engage in conversations about technique, inspiration, and the creative process. There were demonstrations, workshops, and exhibitions that showcased the breadth of what's possible with watercolour as a medium. Each session offered fresh perspectives and reminded me why I'm so passionate about this art form.
The energy in Bologna was equally vibrant. As one of Europe's oldest university cities, it carries an intellectual and artistic spirit that's palpable. Exploring the galleries, studios, and historic streets between festival events gave me plenty of time to reflect on my own practice and what I want to explore next in my work.
Experiences like this—immersing myself in the global art community, seeing how other artists push boundaries, and being inspired by the craftsmanship of places like Fabriano—fuel my creativity and deepen my commitment to creating meaningful, beautiful work. I'm already thinking about how these experiences will influence the pieces I create moving forward.
